Manifesto

Catalonia Advocacy Group on International Media

The background.

Throughout the entire journey towards independence set in motion in Catalonia a number of years ago, international media outlets have largely ignored the pro-independence movement, opting to frame the phenomenon through what is known as ‘el próces’ (‘the process’ in English—a perspective on conflict championed by Catalan institutions which has spawned an independence movement based on eschewing the unilateral approach through which all countries have become independent). In particular, the most resolved pro-independence voices have been shunned by the international media.

Given that el próces has exported a watered down version of the true conflict found in Catalonia, the glaring dissonance among international observers should come as no surprise. The severity of the grievances that Catalonia is said to suffer in no way matches the nature of the conflict that is depicted externally.

The solution.

To overcome these issues and offer a meaningful account to international media outlets, we think the dialogue needs to remain untethered to the usual channels forged between the pro-independence movement and the international media.

This is why we believe it is necessary to create a new group open to people with different ideologies where we can build a bridge between pro-independence and international media outlets. The name of this group is the Catalonia Advocacy Group on International Media.

Likewise, we need to create content in both Catalan and English.

Practically speaking, our task will be to publish in-depth articles, lectures by renowned international experts in the field and translations of books and other documents.

We will remain independent through private donations.

Anyone who wishes to support our independence can make their contribution here

Sincerely,

CADGIM
